Until a couple of years ago, Tag Heuer Formula 1 was the company’s best quartz watch. But recently, the brand decided to upgrade this very popular collection by equipping a part of its models with an automatic movement. Nowadays, the Formula 1 series includes both quartz and mechanical automatic movement timepieces, feature modern bezels and bold dials. These are definitely the perfect casual sports watches inspired by Formula 1.
The very interesting thing about the Formula 1 family is that it comprises entry-level priced models. These modern and versatile designs cost about $1,400 and $4,000. The company’s purpose is to define the Formula 1 collection as a trendy, masculine and sporty line with a very technical and stylish twist.
The latest Tag Heuer Formula 1 automatic versions launched in 2014 are available with two movement types. The first one is the three hand Formula 1 Calibre 6 and the second one is the Formula 1 Calibre 16. While the three hand Calibre 6 model is available in a 41 mm case diameter, the Calibre 16 was manufactured in an over-sized case which measures 44 mm in diameter. The collection also includes a Calibre 5 and a Calibre 7 version, both with a 41 mm case diameter.
The Tag Heuer Formula 1 is a set of very attractive designs with a spectacular sporty dial and enhanced readability. The company’s goal was to create a very restrained timepiece so that it can focus on offering maximum legibility. The hands and hour markers design and color combinations are a nice revolutionary aesthetic approach meant to mesmerize the modern watches enthusiast.
The cases of the newer Tag Heuer Formula 1 are manufactured from either solid stainless steel or black titanium. The dial is adorned with a scratch proofed sapphire crystal that seals the watch up to a depth of 200 meters. The really nice diving addition is the rotating diver’s style bezel that is usually in a matching color.
Calibre 16 and most quartz Tag Heuer Formula 1 models feature chronograph complications. These enrich the overall sophisticated look of the collection with high functionality and versatility. Still, there are a few simple dial models within the family that were specially designed for those who are not necessarily fans of chronographs. These are the Calibre 7 and Calibre 5 Formula 1 watches. Calibre 7 offers the GMT function and a sleek date window while Calibre 5 has just the date window at 3 o’clock. Their dial layout is very similar.
Even though the race car inspired timepieces market is very competitive, Tag Heuer manages to run the charts with its Formula 1 line. The unique design, high functionality, superior quality and entry-level prices of these iconic timepieces has turned them into the preferred choice of countless watches fans.
