Description
First launched in 2012 at Baselworld watch fair, the Sky-Dweller portraits itself as a complicated timepiece which implicitly means that it`s also an exceptional smart one.
This is a completely new watch created by Rolex, incorporating some serious and useful functions presented in the form of a casual design (just like the Datejust or Day-Date from the Oyster category). This design makes it both sporty and elegant in the same time and you can imagine yourself wearing it successfully to a casual/sport outfit but also to a casual/elegant type of apparel.
This watch has a 42 mm 18k white gold case and a black dial that offers a great background for all the other elements, conferring easy readability. It has silvertoned hands and numerals (Arabic) with Rolex`s logo situated at 12 o`clock.
This particular model comes with a black leather with alligator pattern strap bracelet and has a 18k white gold deployment buckle.
We know by now that one of Rolex`s objectives when designing and developing a watch mechanism is it`s functionality. And Sky-Dweller is able to completely translate into facts this aim of the Swiss manufacturer. Every function of this timepiece exists specifically to fulfill a functional purpose and nothing is allowed only for the beauty of it. This time the design team kept it simple and this watch can surely make your life much easier.
Sky-Dweller is a 9001 caliber watch, a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured in-house. This timepiece mechanism relies on the interaction between the perpetual mechanical movement and the fluted bidirectional bezel.
It features a great complication, the one of being able to keep two time zones, which elevates it at the must-have watch area if your life involves lots of travelling. One of the time zones is the local time, displayed by the conventional center hour, minutes and seconds. The hour hand can be set independently forwards or backwards, without moving the minutes, seconds or the reference time. It needs only one setup over the year, on 1st of March, due to the fact that February is shorter than all the other months. The date is so ingeniously displayed: one of the 12 apertures is colored in red and is this red color that indicates the current month. The annual calendar is a type of complication never before used by Rolex, being a more simplified version of the perpetual calendar.
The second time kept by the Sky-Dweller is the reference time, representing the time of your usual residence. This one is displayed in the off-center dial, with the red arrow pointing towards.
So, the three main functions of this timepiece are the local time, the reference time and the annual calendar displaying. And now comes the part that upgrades this watch functionality: all this three functions can be accessed and set-up from the Ring Command bezel. The fact that the each function can be adjusted through the command bezel is an innovative and so handy solution found by the Swiss manufacturer as an elegant answer to the single crown adjustments or the pusher from the case band.
If you need a watch that can keep up with you busy lifestyle, a watch that has the attributes of making your life easier by offering usefully functions, the Sky-Dweller is without any doubt the right choice for you.
