Description
Diving watches weren’t always a part of the watch industry just as diamonds markers weren’t representative for sporty timepieces. We sure do not know who the first brand to add diamonds on the dial of its sports watches was, but we surely know who invented the first dive timepiece. Rolex revolutionized everything we knew about watches in 1953 when it introduced the first submersible wristwatch. The name of the model was pretty suggestive, Submariner. Just as a submarine is completely sealed under water, a Submariner includes a series of technical innovations that allows it to withstand water pressure and temperature variations at depths of 300 meters.
The really great thing about the Rolex Submariner is that it isn’t just a high quality model with outstanding properties, but it is also a true fashion icon. Due to its flawless design and perennial style, this timepiece is extremely popular among a much diversified crowd of watches enthusiasts. And as nothing can stop a Rolex from overtaking its limits, the Submariner can also be a very luxurious and extravagant model. This is something that was clearly proven by the Rolex Submariner reference #116618. This all gold watch with a blue dial, blue bezel and diamonds markers is the expression of modern sophistication.
Who doesn’t love a full 18 k yellow gold wristwatch? Such a model is the definition of classic style and wealth. It is a symbol for elegance and a high social status. This extremely luxurious watch is entirely manufactured from yellow gold. Its 40 mm diameter case is flawlessly brushed as to temper its extravagant spirit with a touch of ruggedness. The ample and structured case of the timepiece looks larger than 40 mm due to its augmented lugs and crown guards. The solid caseback is manufactured from the same 18 k yellow gold and is tightly screwed in. The model also comes with a triple lock winding crown system which protects the inside movement from exposure to water depths of 300 meters.
The beautiful blue dial of the Submariner 116618 is enriched by the addition of rounded diamond markers. There are actually 3 sets of different hour markers on the face of the watch. The first one is represented by the large triangular 12 o’clock index, the second one includes the thick white batons from 6 and 9 o’clock and the third one refers to the refined diamonds markers. As you will also notice the markers and hands are larger than on the older Submariner versions. This is because all the current Submariners are made with a Maxi-Dial that offers a better visibility under water. Also, the 12 o’clock triangle, the baton hour markers and the bulky hands are coated with SuperLuminova which emits a blue shine in poor lightning conditions.
The watch is boosted by a highly precise and extremely accurate in-house perpetual movement. This impressive mechanism has been designed by Rolex especially for its Submariner models and it is called 3135 Calibre. The movement is fitted with a bleu Parachrom hairspring which enhances the calibre’s anti-magnetic, anti-pressure and shocks properties.
The blue Cerachrom bezel is a technical novelty on the market. Rolex’s unidirectional rotating bezel is a much appreciated instrument that counts elapsed dive time, but the thing that makes the cerachrom one unique is that it is incredibly resistant to scratches, corrosion and light deterioration.
There was a time when Rolex was extremely criticized for the poor quality of its bracelet and clasp. The bracelet had hollow links while the clasp was made from a thin material and it opened easily. Now these faults have been corrected by the introduction of the Oyster bracelet with full solid links, the Oysterlock clasp and the Glidelock system.
There are countless reasons why someone would want to own a Submariner. Its attractive design, fine selection of materials, technological novelties and superior utility are key qualities of this timepiece. The Submariner 116618 enriches the collection with luxurious diamond markers, an extravagant all gold case and a stunning deep blue dial that emphasize endless style.
