In 2009, at the Basel World show Rolex surprised its fans with a new version of the two-toned Submariner with a black dial. Called the Yellow Rolesor, this classic inspired timepiece brought intriguing changes to the basic design of the legendary diving watch, the Submariner. The aesthetic and technical improvements of the Submariner 116613 represented a much needed evolution of its traditional design.

The new look meant a more angular and squared case, basically a more retro appeal for the everlasting Submariner model. Besides the redesigned case, there are other aesthetic innovations that made the watch more attractive. The new ceramic bezel is one of them. Until now, the Submariner was available with an aluminum bezel that had a low resistance to daily wear and a less elegant look. The 12 o’clock marker is an over-sized triangle and the 6 and 9 o’clock ones are thick batons, but regardless of their shape variation all these three indexes are filled with luminescent coating that glows in the dark with a blue light. At the 3 o’clock position there is a date aperture doubled by a 2.5X Cyclops lens. The bulky 18 k yellow gold hands of the watch have been covered with the same lume as to offer peerless legibility to the dial.

The really nice thing about the chromatics of this two-tone Submariner model is that the gold accents on the bezel and dial go beautifully with the gold center links on the bracelet and gold winding crown. Furthermore the 40 mm case is manufactured from both 904L stainless steel and 18 k yellow gold. The duality of this metallic color palette accentuates the elegance and sophistication of the watch. Rolex prefers to also alternate brushed finish portions of the case with areas that have a polished look.

The charming duo of 18 k yellow gold and stainless steel offers to the Oyster bracelet a luxurious touch that is nicely complemented by the possibility of adjusting its size according to your comfort needs. This innovation is known as the Glidelock extension system which has been patented by Rolex. This feature is really easy to use as it does not require any tools for increasing or decreasing the length of the bracelet by 2 mm so it will accommodate either an office or a diving suit.

At the inside of the Rolex Submariner reference #116613 with diamonds markers there is the 3135 Calibre, a self-winding movement that offers a hacking seconds feature and a date aperture. The mechanism is fitted with the Parachrom blue hairspring that makes the watch more resistant to high magnetic fields and powerful shocks.
