Description
The Rolex Explorer II 16570 is one of the older versions of this successful line. It was launched in 1989 and its perennial and elegant look has turned it into a classic choice for men with a pronounced taste for world explorations and thrilling adventures.
When the model with reference 16570 was introduced it was fitted with a 3185 Calibre which is an in-house self-winding mechanical movement, but then in 2007 the mechanism was upgraded with Calibre 3186. This improved Rolex movement has the Rolex in-house Parachrom Blue hairspring and a wheel train with higher tolerance. The current Explorer II comes with the redesigned 3185 Calibre which offers high accuracy and extreme functionality, but has the advantage of being in the perfect size for the 40 mm case diameter version.
This splendid sports watch comes with the iconic Rolex 904L stainless steel case and bezel. This is a three piece design case with 3 distinctive parts- the 40 mm monobloc case, the solid caseback and the fixed bezel with black embossed markings. Every single one of these aforementioned parts is flawlessly crafted with sleek polished surfaces at the sides and fine brushed portions at the top of the lugs. With its 13 mm thickness, the case looks bold and casual on the wrist.
The dial is black with perfectly white hour markers that are surrounded by a thin stainless steel line. The Mercedes-style hands are covered with the same white material which is actually the famous Chromalight, a luminescent material that shines twice as much as a regular lume and in a vibrant blue color. This allows you to read the time at a glance even in the dark. The second time zone 24 hours hand is red color and has a large triangle tip. This enhances the legibility of the dial.
Over the casual dial of the Explorer II there is a gorgeous scratch resistant sapphire crystal adorned with a 2.5X Cyclops lens. This magnifying lens is located above the date window and it offers extra legibility to the entire dial.
Among the most representative functions for this watch is the date feature which implies a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The movement enhances a “quick set” date mechanism. Basically you need to adjust the hour hand by two rotations (24 hours) in order for the date to change and you can also adjust the date backwards or forwards depending on the direction you are travelling across the International Date Line. Also, when you are adjusting the date, the time keeps running.
The stainless steel bracelet is the classic Oyster flat three-piece links that is very practical and comfortable for sportsmen or dynamic modern men. The clasp is as versatile as the band. It is a folding Oysterlock safety clasp that comes with the Easylink 5 mm comfort extension link.
The Rolex Explorer II is a stylish, comfortable and utilitarian watch that is incredibly easy to use. At the moment, it is one of the best GMT timepieces on the planet, a model that is very much appreciated by professional travellers, experienced explorers and sophisticated businessmen.
