Description
Rolex was the first brand to create a watch that was able to display two time zones at once. The GMT Master II was a total novelty when it was launched, a revolutionary timepiece that changed completely the way wristwatches are used by travellers and professionals around the world.
The contemporary Rolex GMT Master II hit the market in 2005 and it was all gold with a signature green dial. It was supposed to be an anniversary special edition model with an innovative “Maxi Dial”. Even though the case remained the same sizes as the ones of the previous versions, the watch had larger hour markers and hands. These were meant to improve the legibility. This model enjoyed another unique feature. It came with a scratch proof bezel manufactured from ceramic. Other notable improvements were the green 24-hours hand, the trip-lock winding crown, the new Calibre 3186 movement and the bracelet with polished center links and Easylink extension. The huge success of the watch generated a return of the GMT Master collection so Rolex started introducing new variations every year. One of the most notable versions is the one with black dial, black Cerachrom ceramic bezel and green 24-hours second time zone hand.
The dial of the watch is as elegant and sleek as it gets. The matte black finish, the large white luminescent hour markers, silver hands and the green signature 24-hours hand are just a few of the details that emphasize its refinement.
This timepiece uses the iconic Rolex Oyster case that measures 40 mm in diameter and is manufactured from high-grade 904L stainless steel. The case is made entirely by Rolex, is completely polished and very resistant to corrosion.
One of the most important innovations is the Cerachrom ceramic bezel that is scratch proofed. This elegant and revolutionary bezel uses a special patented nano-particle process to color the markers in white gold.
The stainless steel Oyster bracelet comes with an easylink clasp which is secured with two locks. The first one closes the bracelet and the second one locks it with a buckle that features the Rolex crown logo. It is very comfortable and easy to lock.
This Rolex is equipped with a Calibre 3186 which is an in-house movement that comes with a Parachrom hairspring, a bidirectional self-winding via Perpetual rotor and a stop seconds function for easy time setting.
The watch offers two main features which are essential for any self-respecting traveler with a preference for luxury and novelty. The first one is the bezel’s marker. When it is set to 12 o’clock it changes the GMT hand to show the current Greenwhich Mean Time(London’s time zone). And by turning the bezel forwards or backwards you can match the difference between the GMT and the time zone which interests you. The second way to use the bezel and GMT hand is to show your local time. To change to the local time you need to unscrew the winding crown, pull it in the first position and turn it.
The Rolex GMT Master II is a timepiece with a rich history on the market of luxury watches created for experienced traveller. This elegant and subtle professional instrument is perfect for those who prefer a balanced mix between aesthetics and performances.
