Description
The character of James Bond has had a long association with luxury watches, which have often been repurposed to hold all manner of cool gadgets and tech to help aid the super spy. From his big screen debut in 1962’s ‘Dr No’ where Sean Connery’s Bond can be spotted wearing a Rolex Submariner, 007 has always been known for wearing only the best watches around, namely the famous Submariner collection from Rolex.
Recent times have saw Swiss watchmaker Omega take over the reigns as the provider of Bond’s on-screen timepieces, having won the rights back in 1995. Pearce Brosnan was the first actor playing James Bond to wear an Omega, with a Seamaster Diver 300m (with a special laser beam) being his watch of choice.
Each new film featuring Bond has seen the spy fitted with a classic range of Omega watches, with the most recent Bond Daniel Craig sporting the blue Omega Seamaster Chronometer in his first outing in 2006s Casino Royal.
Wanting to pay homage to the iconic film franchise that they have supplied watches to for over 20 years, Omega released the James Bond 007 50th Anniversary Collector’s Piece Seamaster Co-Axial 300m. It is quite the commemorative piece with only 11,007 having been produced, making them one of the most exclusive Omega models ever.
It is a modern update of the very first Omega worn by Brosnan in Goldeneye, which is of course part of the massively popular Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch that the character has been seen wearing in following four films.
The 41mm case is polished with brushed stainless steel as is the bracelet, which comes with a free sizing option to ensure a secure fit. A lacquered black dial has been adorned with the famous James Bond 007 logo across the surface in a diagonal pattern, all of which is protected through the scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
There are 11 indexes on the dial, all of which are coated with Super-LumiNova and a blue emission that help to make the display visible in most lighting conditions.
The famous gun barrel view seen at the open credits of each Bond film has been stamped onto the transparent case back of the watch while the visible rotor has a gun bullet decoration.
A black ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel matches well with the black dial of the watch, helping to provide a very slick and understated design. The diving scales present on the bezel are set in matt chromium nitride with the exception of the ‘50’ which feature a deep red colour – a subtle reference to the 50 year anniversary of the film franchise.
A screw-in crown is found at the edge of the case at the 3 o’clock position and there is a helium escape vale situated at 10 o’clock, with the watch being water resistant to 300 metres/1000 feet.
The Seamaster Diver Co-Axial 41mm James Bond 50th anniversary edition is a certified chronometer that features an Omega 2507 calibre, a self-winding chronometer that features the co-axial escapement. The movement provides the watch with an impressive 48 power reserve.
As a limited edition model it comes with a certificate of authenticity so you know for a fact that this is the real deal! A special manufacturer’s manual and box are also provided with the Seamaster Diver Co-Axial 41mm James Bond 50th anniversary edition.
Again, there are only 11,007 of these watches in circulation, making them highly-sought out and incredibly rare. This is evidenced by the exquisite design and craftsmanship that has helped to produce a truly unique timepiece that is certainly good enough for any James Bond to wear!
