First introduced in 2012 along with the Radiomir Composite 3-Days, this model has a 45 mm case made from brown Panerai Composite, a special material branded by Officine Panerai and first introduced in the world of watches in the year 2010. It is used mostly in the aeronautic industry, but through a special process of ceramization of the aluminium, Officine Panerai has succeeded to enrich the range of watchmaking materials. The main characteristic of this material is the fact that, although it is harder then ceramic (but lighter), it is also harder then metals such as steel, titanium or aluminium. So these Radiomir models definitively have a very high resistance to scratches, shocks or temperature variations. And low maintenance is always a plus when it comes to high-end watches There are two very similar  Radiomir composite models, one with the core of  the P.3000 caliber and a 47mm case diameter,  and the one presented here.

As we are used by know, the dial is kept simple and the color combo follows an earthy, neutral line. The hour markers and indices, the  subdial, the date and the hour and minute hands are all beige and a small black contour surrounds the timekeeper’s hands, as an inspired design feature. The lower dial of the sandwich shape can be spotted through the second dial apertures and it’s luminescence offers great legibility no matter the light conditions.

Because of the burnished see-through sapphire crystal from the back we can see the P.9000 in-house developed mechanism in action. To provide the 3-Days power reserve, this mechanism has two main spring barrels. The date function, located at 3 o’clock, along with the stop-seconds function and the 100 m water resistance are all practical and make this timepiece entitled to wear the Black Seal inscription on the dial. Reminiscence of the brave past of Officine Panerai, the official watch provider of the Italian Navy slow-speed torpedoes commandos during World War II.

A technical exercise and a unique design at the same time, this Radiomir has the personality capable of exciting the Paneristi but also to attract new customers. And the brand is showing off the skills in constructing new models keeping some representative lines from old ones. This difficult task was successfully accomplished, the result being a watch that subtly pays tribute to the predecessors but it’s unique in its own way.

The composite also has the advantage of coming in different colors, so the variety satisfies even the most pretentious taste. To  go along with the masculine color combo, the strap is like an extension of the case, in  brown calf Assolutamente leather with beige stitches, looking a bit like aged leather, an elegant choice that complements the case.

It’s even a good investment considering the fact that it incorporates great horological ingenuity branded by one of the most valuable  manufacture in the world.

Once at your wrist, the lightness of this watch becomes clear and although this is a high-tech watch, you will still have the chance to experience a glance of that vintage feel for which Officine Panerai is worldwide appreciated.
