Back in 2004, Tag Heuer has been the official sponsor of the Indianapolis 500 race and since then it has enriched its Formula 1 collection with several “Indy 500” special edition timepieces, which were traditionally offered to the winners. One of its most recent versions is this model that features a stunning anthracite dial and a distinctive chequered flag with red margins. It is a remarkable look which emphasizes the uniqueness of Tag Heuer’s racing inspired watches.

As a tribute to the Indy 500 race, Tag Heur has embossed the name of the competition on the fixed finely brushed steel bezel where usually the word “tachymeter” was located. Nevertheless, the striking bezel does have the tachymeter scale printed on its surface with oversized black Arabic numerals. The utility of the tachymeter scale is to calculate average speed over a given distance.

The 42 mm case of the Indy 500 edition is crafted from a solid block of stainless steel which has been finely brushed for an elegant minimalistic look. As a statement of its outstanding performances, this exquisite silver case is water resistant to 200 meters. The bracelet is manufactured from the same steel and has the same striking brushed surface.

The dial of the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 is made from grey anthracite which looks incredibly unique. The hour indexes feature luminescent coating and are shaped as simple silver applied batons. Only the 12 o’clock marker is represented by a large Arabic numeral. The timepiece includes a conservative minute scale that emphasizes its utilitarian look, a discrete date window at 4 o’clock and 3 silver counters with “azurage”.

At the inside of the Tag Heur Indy 500 there is a quartz movement with a crystal regulator that has an almost perfect precision. This very accurate mechanism features a date window at 4 o’clock, a 1/10th of a second and hour chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, a minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock and a running second counter at 3 o’clock with a red hued central hand for enhanced visibility.
